Re: Alert! Nova Cas 2021 mag 9
Here is a spectrum of Nova Cas 2021 taken on 6th August with a LISA (R~1065) and calibrated in absolute flux using a concurrently measured V magnitude of 7.70. There are broad emission lines of H I Balmer and He I, all with P-Cygni absorption dips. The Balmer emission lines have FWHM ranging from 14...

Re: TCP J20210770+2914093 a nova in Vul
Last night, 3rd August, I measured Nova Vul 2021 at V=10.97, B-V=1.14, almost a magnitude fainter than 48 hrs before and slightly redder. The following LISA spectrum (R~1062) was calibrated in absolute flux using this V magnitude and response corrected with the B9III MILES star HD192907 recorded at ...

Hi Robin,
Fe II (42) lines were starting to appear even earlier on 19th July.

Re: TCP J20210770+2914093 a nova in Vul
Here is a spectrum taken with a LISA on July 17.901 in slightly hazy conditions. Concurrent photometry gave a V magnitude of 13.10 which was used to calibrate the spectrum in absolute flux. I think the lines Robin is asking about are C II which are seen in He/N novae. David novavul2021_20210717_901_...

Outburst of the WZ Sge star V627 Peg
The WZ Sge star V627 Peg has been reported in outburst by Maeda Yutaka (Japan) confirmed in observations by the ASAS-SN Sky Patrol and ZTF. Christian Knigge (Southampton U) is putting together a multi-wavelength campaign to study the outburst. Amateur data will be welcome. Last night (15th July) I o...

Re: Probable nova in Hercules mag 6.4 !
Here is a plot showing the evolution of the nova over the period 12-18 June using low resolution (R~500-1000) spectra from the ARAS database calibrated in absolute flux either by the observer or using V mags from the AAVSO database averaged in quarter day bins and interpolated to the times of the sp...

Re: Probable nova in Hercules mag 6.4 !
The following plot shows the change in absolute flux of the nova over the last 4 days. These R~1000 spectra have been calibrated in absolute flux using concurrently recorded V magnitudes of 6.35, 8.38 and 9.77 respectively.

Re: Probable nova in Hercules mag 6.4 !
The spectrum tonight looks very different. It is now about 2 magnitudes fainter.

Re: Probable nova in Hercules mag 6.4 !
Here is a low resolution R~1000 spectrum of the new bright object in Her, now announced in ATel 14704 as a nova. Taken with a LISA on a 0.28m SCT. This has been instrument and atmospheric response corrected.
