Re: Wavelength Calibration Relco

Hi, I am using an Alpy 600 and have never been able to get an accurate calibration during the six years I've been using it. I normally use ISIS but have switched to Demetra to see if that made any difference. I have played around with different degrees of polynomial and various calibration lines. I...

Re: Wavelength Calibration Relco

Hi Francois, Thanks for the work to recover this site, it's great to be back. Here are my Relco calibration details: Spectroscope: Alpy 600 Calibration lines: 7383.98 7272.94 7147.04 6965.43 6506.53 6266.49 5852.49 5400.56 4764.87 4545.05 4158.59 3946.10 Degree 4 polynomial Alpy 600 Relco calibratio...

Great to be back!

Wonderful to be able to consult and post on the forum again! Thanks so much for all of the hard work to recover from this terrible hack
Cheers

Re: Changes is Ups Sgr spectrum ?

I captured another Alpy spectrum of ups Sgr on September 16th which shows that the blue shifted Hα absorption has now faded compared to the last spectrum I captured on August 29th: upsSgr 2022.08.29-16.09.png upsSgr 2022.08.29-16.09 Halpha zoom.png All of the hydrogen Balmer lines appear to have wea...

Re: Changes is Ups Sgr spectrum ?

That's a beautiful Doppler shift between your high resolution spectra Guillaume. I captured another Alpy spectrum on 29th August that shows no sign yet of any weakening in the Hα absorption feature. Here's a comparison with my spectrum taken 23 days previously: Full wavelength range normalised at 55...

Re: Changes is Ups Sgr spectrum ?

Thanks Robin for highlighting this interesting star. Even at the low resolution of my Alpy 600 the apparent P Cygni profile is quite distinct, although at this resolution not the plateau between the Hα emission and absorption visible in Guillaume's high resolution spectrum. For such a hot star the s...

Re: Alert! Nova Cas 2021 mag 9

I recently brought together the 46 spectra that I captured 2021 March 22 - 2022 March 22 to paint a spectroscopic portrait of Nova Cas 2021. The results are described in a short paper in the Variable Star Section Circular no.192 just published by the British Astronomical Association, which can be do...

Re: ATel 15093 (Dec 8, 2021) emergence of Bowen blend/He II

Thanks Etienne for a very interesting link to ATel 15093. From the series of spectra that I have been capturing with my Alpy spectroscope I could see that the pair of emission lines, NIII 4638Å (Bowen blend with CIII) and He II 4686Å, made a first appearance in early August coincident with the nova ...

Nova Cas 2021 evolution in an Alpy spectroscope

In spite of the English weather I have now captured 33 Alpy spectra of Nova Cas 2021, available in the ARAS and BAA databases. It is interesting to highlight the timing of the observations on the light curve from Vmag data in the AAVSO database: Annotated light curve.png When compared as a stacked, ...

Nova Cas 2021 absorption velocity variation

I have continued to follow the evolution of the expansion velocity, using the blue shifted absorption minimum on the shoulder of many of the emission lines. At the resolution of my Alpy 600 spectroscope, such P Cygni profiles have remained strong for all of the Balmer lines Hβ and above. In Hα and H...
