Re: VV Cep evolution at low resolution

Hi Hugh, just read over the latest posts then saw your plots of EW in H-alpha and H-beta. Could you share your results in a table format? I will try to add mine into yours and post it back. I also collected certain observations before the eclipse. Unfortunately my current observations are not that d...

Re: Mysterious broad emission found in NGC 6888

Hi Christian, reflection is, what I would suspect, too. I took several spectra of different regions of NGC 6888 and also Vega in these night, where ghosts are not visible. I found the ghost on different images of two nights, but only when taking spectra of the WR star. The slit was positioned at nea...

Reflected and scattered light in spectra (Edit)

Dear spectroscopists, Probably, it is a bit too late to publish this finding, one never knows. A close investigation of my first light experiments with the ASI camera taken in the nights of 28./29. September 2017 yielded a mysterious broad emission on top of a faint continuum. in my spectra in a reg...

Re: CMOS vs CCD for spectroscopy applications

Christian, I strongly discourage the use of a median filter for pixel binning. Reason is, that the median is a non-linear filter. Pixel intensities are sorted ignoring information about their position. Hence, the "middle" intensity picked up by the median filter is not the same as the expe...

Re: CMOS vs CCD for spectroscopy applications

Hi Peter, this explains well the "parasitic" light found in my first image shown here: http://www.spectro-aras.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=8&t=1832 I didn't see this before because the field of view of my DSLR is small compared to the image taken with the ASI. Thank you for the tip to fi...

Re: CMOS vs CCD for spectroscopy applications

Hi Christian, Again thank you for this information. Indeed the ASI 1600 is a very interesting camera. And I quickly learned: Cool it down to the lowest possible temperature. This is interesting to note because I used uncooled DSLR for a while being quite happy. Regarding your comments on non-lineari...

Re: Another CMOS: Skylight spectrum with ASI1600MM-Cool

First light at the 20cm Cassegrain Ignoring the effort to measure boring numbers, it might be interesting to find out, how faint objects may be, if one tries to detect them close to a brighter star. I took my first measure of the Wolf-Rayet star WR 136 at the OHP this year. In the mean while my DSL...

Re: CMOS vs CCD for spectroscopy applications

The winner is presently the ATIK460EX CCD camera for faint light spectroscopy, but the CMOS are not so far... The main problem is finally dark signal and the operating temperature of CMOS detectors. A minor difficulty I think. Hi Christian, Very interesting article. One question: I'm really interes...

Another CMOS: Skylight spectrum with ASI1600MM-Cool

Dear all, Working for a while with an IR modified Canon EOS 60D DSLR for spectroscopy, I'm just switching to CMOS camera ZWO ASI 1600MM-C to extend my work to the fainter objects. The ZWO camera comes with a CMOS sensor from Panasonic. Light sensitive area of the sensor is relatively large with dime...

Re: Observation state of the campaign

Hi Ernst, However, it would be to early, to make statements about the size of the disk with this (vague) temporal difference and the system radial velocity. I agree. So far, the EW looks more likely correlated with each other, than anti-correlated. I would expect to find most difference in intensiti...
