Re: Observation state of the campaign

Indeed Peter, lots of questions to answer... Hydrogen alpha or 3-->2 energy level difference is only 1.89 eV, so in such an enormous gas envelope as with VV Cephei it stays the major and most favorite component even detectable during totality. More ideas on accretion disks and shockwave perturbation...

Re: Observation state of the campaign

Indeed, Influence of a circumstellar disc or not, that's one question.... Anyway the idea of a circumstellar disc precession could still be acceptable/plausible if we "assume" a periodical eccentricity caused by shockwaves/wind/dust particles. Interesting scientific debate assured! Looking...

Re: Observation state of the campaign

Dear Ernst, The more observations are appearing, the more our initial "hunch" of a possible wobble/precession behaviour can explain the course of the corrected V/R diagram. The Scargle periodogram shows a significant cycle of approx. 41-42 days. The small changes between the consecutive pe...

Re: Questions to the campaign

Very interesting considerations, Ernst. To the short cyclic variation: My proposal of a possible mechanism of apsidal motion, which results in precession could be a good train of thought here. The remark of Phil on "atmospheric eclipse " stage occurring now, makes me think also on influenc...

Re: Observation state of the campaign

Many thanks, Ernst for this quick calculation of the V/R graph. 1) Short cyclic character could be caused by an apsidal motion of the accretion disk, typified by an unequal distibution (hence, rotation) of matter in the envelope. 2) No major delay between V and R descents This indicates that the des...

Re: Observation state of the campaign

Dear Ernst, This analysis gives a remarkable turn in the project. This points towards your latest re-calculation of the beginning point of the eclipse, which I think was in the beginning of June. With this latest graphical presentation it seems to be even earlier. What is the standard deviation of t...

Re: Observation state of the campaign

Amazing, Ernst, apparently VV Cep is in transition to a kind of CE phase, which influences temporarily the V & R components.....

Re: Observation state of the campaign

Dear Ernst, It is hardly thinkable that there are no pulsations active in this complex binary system. Could it be possible that the results of the correlation study between H-alpha EWcorr and Vmag with correlation coeff. R=0.06 represent the final result of a "filtered" or "quenched&q...

Re: Observation state of the campaign

Very interesting approach, Ernst.

Possible (non linear) pulsation cycle detected here?

Marc.
