Re: QSO 1247+267

Re: BD Cam
To: Joan & François, Thanks for the astrophysics (don't think any of our equipment at sea level can get near 1200 A in the deep UV!). Joan, looks like your using 26 orders out of 34 possible; albeit, the bottom 2 UV(?) rows would be hard to process with low SNR. If I every move to a darker sky l...

Re: BD Cam
To: Joan Nice spectra and coincidence with the echelle Mussol, Observatori de Piera. I might shoot this tomm in the CaK to get a baseline for future observation because the variability seems constrained to the UV and near IR, He bands. Re: LISA vs Alpy600
Thanks Francois, Christian, & Olivier! I ordered the LISA and LISA calibration module, photometric/wide-slit (19hole, 50, 75, 100 micron slits)/slit holder, and adapters for the Atik 4060ex/SBIG ST-10. One of the slits wont be ready for 2 weeks, so I may opt to buy the IR kit then after seeing C...

Re: LISA vs Alpy600
Thanks Francois & Christian! I'll probably follow your kind advice and pursue the LISA option. One more question. Is it time consuming to switch from Visual to IR mode? (i.e. Can you switch from Vis-IR quick enough to catch your target on the same night?) I'm intrigued by C. Buil's wide Vis-IR s...

Re: LISA vs Alpy600
To: Robin, RE:" your 430mm f6.8, the 23um slit would be 1.6 arcsec so I would definitely lose efficiency using the ALPY with my seeing and your scope" I totally agree! My seeing varies btw 3.8"-2.1" FWHM at home. Of course I also have another set-up exactly like yours, C-11 with ...

Re: LISA vs Alpy600
Thanks for the reply Robin! I read Christian Buil's review on the Alpy600 and how he tried to differentiate the two spectroscopes. Clearly the LISA has better resolution on bright targets, seen at spitting the Na lines clearly while the Alpy600 is barely at the task (R1000 vs R600). As you suggested...

LISA vs Alpy600
I'm trying to decide what low-resolution spectroscope might be better to acquire, 1.) LISA with calibration module (and maybe IR kit) R=1000 2.) Alpy 600 with guider & calibration module (Cheaper option) R=600 I want to expand into full visual and/or IR spectroscopy because I'm interested in var...

Re: Eta Orionis period with eShel spectrograph
To: Ernst, Great work! Need to send you more VV Cep data when (and if) I can reduce all my 40+ nights of spectra observations from Jul-Dec2016. RE:"....I try to read some publication about this star to understand this complexe of 4 stars system." See: http://adsabs.harvard.edu/abs/2008AAS....

Re: WR140 aproaching periastron
Nice spectra Oliver & Robin!
I finished WR140, or I should say, my house finished it by obscuration!
I'm doing pretty pictures btw storms in Los Angeles, but will soon set the
spectrograph to continue Pleione observations and some CaK/Hy spectra of
solar analogs.
