Re: Reference Miles-star finder
Hi Peter, I also suspect errors come from the Mac version. I don't have a Mac to try it but searching the web I've found that one of the main differences between excel for Mac and for Windows is a lesser VBA (visual basic for application) integration. In other words, may happen you can't just import...

Re: Reference Miles-star finder
Dear Seow Koon, I'm very sorry, the spreadsheet only works with MS Excel, latest versions. Even older versions have problems! Marco and I tried to run it on other free spreadsheets (i.e. LibreOffice) but without success. There would be, in theory, statements that make the code compatible with Excel ...

Re: TCP J04291884+4354232 possible nova mag 10.2
Hi all, Woody, Christophe, Marion, very nice spectra! A great work has been done by all nova observers, as you can see from ARAS database. The Nova Per 2020 reached the highest number of spectra in DB after the "nova of the century", Nova Delphini 2013 (the same plateau phase at mag 11 aga...

Re: TCP J04291884+4354232 possible nova mag 10.2
I use this feature to position correctly, as much as possible, the nova in the slit. On a single exposure of 60 seconds, only the Halpha line is visible. So, I then correct the position of the nova on the slit by maximizing the flux on Halpha before starting exposures of 600 seconds. Excellent meth...

Re: TCP J04291884+4354232 possible nova mag 10.2
Hi Christophe, your wish has been heard, thank you! ;-) Yesterday the sky cleared up (very rare event during this time!) and I was able to observe the nova again. I think the h-alpha line is the only feature (not very well) accessible at medium resolution with my telescope. The nova is very faint no...

Re: TCP J04291884+4354232 possible nova mag 10.2
Congratulations for your very nice spectra! The nova is so faint...
In the latest spectra it seems the [O III] doublet has grown. The broad 5007A line is clear (prominent blue peak), the 4959A line is weaker but visible. Typical intensity ratio is ~3:1.
Here snow, cold, wind...
Clear sky!

Hi all,
a fresh spectrum of the nova (just completed).
H-alpha emission line is still very strong but its profile has changed a lot in two weeks.
Clear sky!

Re: TCP J04291884+4354232 possible nova mag 10.2
My conditions were quite variable and got worse later in the run Hi Robin, it's a pity the progressive signal deterioration. With such a faint target it can certainly change the result. The same data for my spectro session are below. I think the cause of some variations can be attributed to atmosph...

Hi Robin, the SNR seem to me similar but my exposure time was much longer. Maybe there was a balance between integration time and telescope aperture.
Clear sky!

Hi all, congratulations for your spectra. My attempt tonight to capture the oxygen line in the NIR, as suggested by François.
Very noisy profile...
