Re: VV Cep: Fe absorptions increase around Ca II doublet
Hello, Finally, got enough time to process my VV Cep obsertvations about the egress phase, continuing with flux (same way as in 2018 during eclipse). Followed only the CaII region (3850-4005A) for the egress at R~5000 (except 20191229.751 that is showing deep reverse P-Cyg, such as before ingress), ...

Re: Further outburst of the (DN) Dwarf Nova TCPJ21040470+463
Hello, Catched a few days late after the outburst (~ 11.3 mag now), fresh result of this windy morning (12" Newton, ATIK 428Exm, LHires III + 600/mm grating + 35 micron slit): TCP_J21040470_4631129.png I belive H-alpha is changing in the meantime above noise. By RV range, it looks similar to Pa...

Re: How to choose a camera for auto guiding in spectroscopy
I can see some southern amateurs appreciating cooling. But, please take into account that - in a northern coutry, cooling is 100% needless (except summer). You can spend the money elsewhere in this luxury hobby. - if you want cooling, the regulation itself is a pure waste of money (for 1-2 secs of e...

Re: v473 Lyr
Robin, Francois, The 0.5 (- 0.8 a few) km/s error is coming from IRAF/fxcor task (should be the FHWM of gauss fit). (+ another 0.5 km/sec for measuring reference star, so the total should be 1 km/sec) This is only the easily measurable part of the error. Slit guiding, flexture and calibration line f...

Re: Betelgeuse
Fresh result from yesterday, scanned near-UV and NIR ranges, allowing comparative exploration: 1. 3870-4010A (CaII region): R~5300A, LHires III 2400/mm, 35 micron slit 1 x 20 min (more than enough signal), bin2x2, luckily had an earlier own spectrum in 2017: alfori_3870A_4010A_2017_vs_20191230.png T...

Re: V694 Mon
Nice coverage with the HST, Terry and Woody! I can shoot it only in the morning skies - managed at least bracketing the critical time (2 days before - vs - today): v694Mon_vhel_HaHbHeI4922_velo.png The He I 4922 change is visible also visually on raw spectra, it's the most obvious above noise level....

Fresh spectra from this morning, having switched to 2400/mm grating: - 4 x 20 min. H-alpha (R ~ 15000, 6500 - 6610A) - 5 x 10 min. H-beta (R ~ 9000, 4817 - 4961A), includes Fe I emissions + He I 4922 absorption Velocity plot (the H-alpha is comparative to half year before): v694Mon_velocities.png Ch...

2019.10.20 morning, with LHires III + 600/mm + 35 micron slit + ATIK 428 + 300/1200 Newton (+ APM 2.67x barlow), variable sky: - H-alpha @ R~2500 - He/Ne (~5800A) region @ R~2000= - H-beta @ R~1800 Not much change within a month at this resolution, except H-alpha changed somewhat: cmp_Ha_Hb.png Velo...

Re: V694 Mon
Fresh results from this morning:
After shooting H-beta (2 x 600 sec), quickly switched to the H-alpha region (1 x 600 sec, sun background could be substracted easily):
It looks to be continuing in similar state as this year spring.
