Re: at2023geu, possible SN

Hi Emmanuel, I agree. This is definitely not a supernova. The spectrum is not that of a supernova and the redshift is almost zero. I see your classification in TNS. I recommend adding more information about your equipment so users know the resolution for example. It is a good idea to add the spectru...

Re: sn2023czd

An impressive result at mag 16. I see amateur Claudio Balcon made the official classification, beating the professional team by just 3 minutes !

Re: how to improve the visibility of objects in an Alpy600?

Hi Juan José, An ALPY with a 200 l/mm grism and standard 23um slit gives a resolving power of ~130 which is similar to the resolution of the SED machine used by the Zwicky transient facility for supernova classification. https://nickkonidaris.com/sed-machine/ Have you added your name to Shelyak's li...

Here is an example of the ALPY guide camera image when measuring a galaxy (IC708) using a brighter guide star in the same field

Re: how to improve the visibility of objects in an Alpy600?

The ATIK Titan is one of the best cameras for this application (I wish I had one. I use an old ATIK16-ICS but will replace it with an ATIK 314 when it fails) I measure the spectra of targets as faint as mag 19 using a specially modified low resolution ALPY for example https://britastro.org/observati...

Re: Spectra data of PN acquired with Alpy as reference

Hi Sam, Yes a standard ALPY 600 with 23um slit and calibration and guider units on a Celestron C11 with a focal reducer running at f5.5 (See the warning below about focal reducers. I use one because I am mainly interested in maximum sensitivity on faint objects) I will email you a dropbox link with ...

Re: Spectra data of PN acquired with Alpy as reference

There are also some spectra of other PNe taken using the ALPY 600 in the BAA spectroscopy database

And Francois Teyssier's analysis of NGC6293 here might also be of interest

Re: ALPY 200 or ALPY 330 ?

Also note that the most efficient professional classification system for faint objects - SEDM (Spectral Energy Distribution Machine) uses the R~100 spectroscope. I started classifying supernova with the ALPY200 2 weeks before the SEDM started up :-) https://www.wis-tns.org/object/2016bme Cheers Robin

Re: ALPY 200 or ALPY 330 ?

I have had many enquires over the years about the ALPY200 I built in 2014 specifically for supernova classification. (Note that An Alpy with a 200 l/mm grism would have a resolution with the standard 23um slit of R~130, not 200). The grism is easy to change in the ALPY (see the poster paper on my we...
