Post by Michel Verlinden »

Bonjour,

Hi Michel,

What precision are you looking for ?

I think the thermal stability, flexure and asymmetry in the line shape due to the position of the star on the slit could be the limiting factors before the CCF error. I measured 0.5km/s 1 sigma long term stability with LHIRES 2400l/mm 35um slit measuring two lines in Vega and Deneb by superimposing lamp lines on the spectrum during the exposure.

Using CCF did not improve the precision in this case. CCF might still help if the spectrum is more noisy though.

Cheers
