Jack,
I know the suggestion of Steve Shore, I was participant of OHP 2015.
But the question is, what whould that bring? Our current "communication system" (ARAS forum) is from my point view quick enough in order to communicate important things, when something is happend.
And in practice we are able at present to gather spectra with a very high observation density, That´s more than we can expect, I think. And it reflects a wonderful readiness of the really interested observers to the campaign.

Ernst,

OK agreed, I continue to post on this forum.

So here is the latest 'quick' spectrum tonight around 22.00 hr 2017-08-10 revealing no changes yet in the H alpha profile.

I keep monitoring with interest.

I have not received your e mail response from the last batch of 24 spectra I sent you for evaluation on 2017-07-27.

jackmartin781@gmail.com is my e mail address.

Jack,
wonderful, your further engagement to contrubute to the campaign. But don´t worry when I say that this spectrum is not suitable for evaluation of EW and PH of the Halpha components because of the many spikes and the low S/N.
Concerning your other spectra I will write you a privat mail.

Dear Ernst,

Concerning embedding the logo, which is an excellent eyecatcher for the campaign, permission has to be asked to the administrator/webmaster as we as users are not allowed to add illustrations in the headings. A nice place for the logo could be the VV Cep principal map in the forum, which can open the link to all conversations on that topic. But of course the administrators decide here.

As an extra to stimulate the "mental" support for the eclipse : :D

Anyway we continue to record the spectra !!

Kind regards,

Here are my observations, Ha and CaK with the LhiresIII (2400 l/mm grating) using gamma Peg and Vega for IR response:

These were processed in Isis 5.90 and used the Elodie data base on Vega (CaK) and the Isis database for Ha on Gam Peg. Since the Elodie spectrum for Vega only starts at 3900A, I had to make a "pseudo" IR for this part of the VV Cep Cak spectrum, so the IR for values blueward of 3900A are approximate. I was dodging clouds for most of the session while taking data and had to discard 40 out of 110 minutes of exposures due to poor signal on the spectrum. Hope this helps the campaign!

Hi James,

Take care when using the ELODIE 3.1 database below 4000A (or perhaps even below 4100A). The flux calibration is unreliable in this region. Also In all cases only the 3.1 ELODIE spectra should be used, not raw spectra from the ELODIE archive which can be very unreliable. (The Indo-US stars in ISIS are also not good reference spectra as the continuum are not measured but are just based on Pickles spectra)

At high resolution, I try to use UVES spectra where possible
http://www.eso.org/sci/observing/tools/ ... tonow.html
http://www.eso.org/sci/observing/tools/ ... tonow.html
but when using Vega as a reference in this region for high resolution work, I use the Calspec spectrum. It is not ideal as it is lower resolution but filtering the measured spectrum to match produces an acceptable instrument response.

Cheers
Robin
