Hi all, Bonjour,

In springtime of 2017 an updated, completely renewed edition of the well known Spectral atlas of the Swiss astronomer Richard Walker will appear in a Twin book edition.

SPECTRAL ATLAS FOR AMATEUR ASTRONOMERS, A Guide to the Spectra of Astronomical Objects and Terrestrial Light Sources, Author: Richard Walker.

SPECTROSCOPY FOR AMATEUR ASTRONOMERS, Recording, Processing, Analysis and Interpretation. Authors: Marc F.M. Trypsteen and Richard Walker

Background history:

A few years ago it was Olivier Thizy who encouraged Richard to publish the spectral atlas and so contacts were started with Cambridge university Press (CUP).
But at CUP and also Richard himself, both concluded that the plates of the atlas could form one book. But for the theoretical and practical background to fully understand the recorded spectra, a second book was necessary. Richard, being a construction civil engineer contacted me and asked me if I could participate in this second book, which was a more theoretical physics and chemical oriented book to fully understand the meaning of an astronomical spectrum. Being an analytical chemist specialized in all forms of spectroscopy and also experienced as pharmacist in scientific research I realized the importance for the spectral atlas. So we worked intensively together during two years with the same philosophy on this wonderful project. I'm glad this way this splendid Spectral atlas twin project received its green light from the Press syndicate of CUP.

More information on this project can be found via Richard Walker's website:

and the announcement on the Swiss Spectroscopy forum via this link:

We hope every amateur astronomer worldwide will have the opportunity for access to this books. So we encourage the idea it will be on every bookshelf where spectroscopists live ;)

Kind regards,
Cordialement,
