1. Research note of the newly identified yellow symbiotic Hen 3-1768 (≡ASAS J195948–8252.7), based on spectra obtained by Terry Bohlsen. Congratulations to Terry!

2. Additional targets in Adrian's list. Some of them observable from northern hemisphere.

We have had poor weather in December so I haven't been able to do much observing. I did have some clear skies last night but with a full moon.
I observed GAIA DR2 4636654969717900032 which I have observed before. It is a mostly flat featureless spectrum.
I also observed the second star on the list without a name but it is UCAC3 157:43452 at mag 12.3 in CMa.
It shows some features but no emission. Both were 30 mins of exposure. More time is probably needed but since there wasn't any emission I didn't persevere.

Hello,

here is a recent spectrum of the suspected symbiotic GDS J0731468-195434. No emission lines have been detected, the signal is low but enough to discard the presence of medium or strong emisison bands.

Hi
These stars are starting to become visible in the evening again. I have taken spectra of 2 further targets.
GSC9507:2249 which is the 6th star on the list with no name.

Last night, we tried to make GAIA DR24168021909706732672 (mag V = 14.3) with a one meter telescope and a LISA with 50µm slit.
We had a lot of clouds during the acquisitions and had to take the spectrum through the clouds

Suspected Symbiotic Stars: two new targets

Post by Francois Teyssier »

Adrian Lucy (Columbia University) fairly-urgently need ARAS optical spectra (any resolution, e.g. R~700--1000 or higher covering at least Halpha, preferably also Hbeta and [O III] 5007) of IRAS 15175-4508 and Haro 1-10.

Adrian writes:

These are my top two non-burning symbiotic candidates, and I'm trying to get a Chandra DDT observation of them based on recent Swift results. The Chandra PI is concerned about whether they are still detectably accreting, so I'd like to compare the emission line strengths to my SpUpNIC spectra from last year.

The coordinates for IRAS 15175-4508 (V=12.3--13.6) are:
15:20:58.3 -45:19:44.4

The coordinates for Haro 1-10 (V=14.2--15.3) are:
16:27:49.76 -29:16:45.46
