Nice coverage with the HST, Terry and Woody!
I can shoot it only in the morning skies - managed at least bracketing the critical time (2 days before - vs - today):
4 x 20 minute H-alpha, 4 x 20 minute H-beta
4 x 20 minute H-alpha, 4 x 20 minute H-beta

The He I 4922 change is visible also visually on raw spectra, it's the most obvious above noise level.
H-beta show some smaller RV changes (far above noise), and H-alpha some global EW change.

Hi Peter and Terry,

I was able to capture a sequence of spectra with my LISA of V694 Mon early morning before the HST window on the 23rd. I took 12 sequences of 7 images each starting with exposures of 120 seconds and ending with exposures of 80 seconds. Even so I still saturated Halpha in some of the sequence as the altitude increased and the sky brightened after astronomical dawn. Here are two PlotSpectra charts, the first one showing the 12 sequences with attention drawn to Hdelta at 4101.73 and the second one showing the PlotSpectra subplot for your HeI 4921.93 line. In the case of the Hdelta line, maybe there is some real change taking place over this several hour period. I suspect the general spread in the lines is due to having to choose one Reference star (therefore one Response curve) and apply it to all 12 sequences. But it still looks like there might be an amplitude change over time. And the other plot shows the HeI line Peter described but lower resolution than Peter's.

The extraordinary V694 Mon (MWC 560) is at its historical brightest luminosity. The previous record was ~ 9 during 1990 visual outburst.

Daily monitoring is recommended (very fast variation)
The IR spectrum shows impressive emissions of OI and Ca II
For Lhires HR, H alpha and the H beta region with the Fe II (42) multiplet are recommended.

Support to HST observations February 13th

Post by Francois Teyssier »

Margarita Kavoska communicates:

Here is an update on the HST schedule:
MWC 560 is currently scheduled for Feb 13 10-16 UT.
So intense spectroscopy during
*Feb 11-Feb 16* (including if at all possible possible several spectra per night) will be great.
Since the source is still in outburst a bi-weekly observations from now to the end of February (and as long as it is observable - into March?) will be very helpful!
Thanks a lot and all the best,
Margarita
