BF Cygni : strong jets

Post by Francois Teyssier »

Last spectrum of BF Cygni shows strong jets at +/- 300 km/s

About the discovery of jets in BF Cyg, see Augustin Skopal's publication :
http://adsabs.harvard.edu/abs/2013A%26A...551L..10S

Of course, a coverage of BF Cyg for the next weeks is recommended :
- high resolution
- low res, flux calibrated

Nice, Paolo !
The satellite bumps are clearly seen at R = 5000
Here's a comparison (13 and 16th of July)

Observation scheduled tonight
A high cadency coverage should be great

François

Nice resolution, Joan !

Tim : very interesting. The outflows appears before June.

All the best,

Excel·lent resultat, Joan,

Here is my contribution from last night. Not as good as Joan's one, but I am happy with the result.

Greetings
Fran

Moltes gràcies Fran:

You're getting all the juice to DADOS. You could indicate on the charts, the type of telescope, the number of integrations and the exposure time?

Amicalment, joan.

Last night, I could take a spectrum of BF Cyg .
Emission lines of HeI have emerged since my last spectrum taken in September 2015

Bien vu, Olivier

BF Cygni is a symbiotic of low excitation
The temperature of the hot component is 'only' 60 000 K at quiescence.
[OIII] and He II can be observed, faint

During a classical symbiotic outburst, the envelop of the hot star expands and cools

Here's the maxwellian distribution of energy for a temperture of, say, 40 000 K
according to the energy in eV
Maxwell_40000.PNG
Maxwell_40000.PNG (7.24 KiB) Viewed 8740 times
There's only a few photons emitted by the pseudophotosphere above 24.6 eV : He remains neutral, so no emission lines of He I (or very faint)
He I appears essentially in absorption, probing the strong (stratified) wind from the hot star (about 450 km/s)

Note Na I in faint emission and the complex shape of the absorption, combination of interstellar and symbiotic nebula
