PNV J00425895+4126279 in M31

Post by Robin Leadbeater »

UK observer George Carey has discovered a variable object, a possible Nova in M31 which needs a confirming spectrum. It has brightened and last night was around mag 16 so a challenging but possible target for low resolution spectroscopy.

A spectrum recorded with the FLOYDS spectrograph on Faulkes Telescope North
https://britastro.org/comment/3650#comment-3650 (raw spectrum image)
https://britastro.org/comment/3657#comment-3657 (reduced spectrum, not flux calibrated)

The spectrum is noisy but except for NaD in absorption, appears featureless, including nothing obvious above the noise at H alpha
Any ideas what this is likely to be ?
