I'm not sure what is in the ISIS config files, but in plain old gnuplot the following would do it I think:

set format y "%g"
That will use the decimal or scientific notation, whichever is shorter. See http://gnuplot.sourceforge.net/docs_4.2/node184.html for other formats.

Some belated results from the 27th Jan. Terribly noisy I'm afraid. Still no guiding and I tried to narrow the slit gap slightly which made things worse, plus battling with various other technical issues. Shame as it was an incredible night down here, best we've had in months.

Finally got around to writing a python script to plot a grid of spectra. Here's all of the low / medium resolution spectra for the nova that are present in the ARAS database. Spectra are from myself, Jonathan Powles and Terry Bohlsen.

H alpha velocity evolution to date. There is a large gap in the sequence between 19th Dec and 09 Jan, hence the
pronounced jump in velocities and line width at that point.

Thanks to Rogerio Marcon, Tasso Napoleao and Ken Harrison for providing the data in the ARAS database.

As you can probably tell from all the plots I am under cloud again :(

Another dodgy effort from Feb 2nd. I left my t-ring at home and had to use a different one so the imaging camera focus was off :(

This is excellent indeed, Malc !

Below is our last profile, made on Jan 30 with a 2400 l/mm grating. I believe the line structures are quite the same perceived on MalcĀ“s spectrum. Also, the trend for brightening, already pointed out by Terry on Jan 28, seems clear.

Last but not least - Jon, many thanks for your comments on the physics of the observed phenomenae. I had read several detailed descriptions about what was happening with Nova Del 2013, but was not able to find many on V1369 Cen. I would be particularly interested on a comparison of the evolution of both novae...any hint on that would be very welcome !
