V718 Sco (Be) T60/Alpy600

Post by Daniel Dejean »

Hello all,
During our last stay at Pic du Midi / T60 we did our best to target low luminosity Be stars, low on the horizon. In this specific exemple, V718 Sco was at 22°above horizon . No other low resolution or large band image available in the Bess data base. The graph below shows our data compared to a high resolution spectra from Joan Guarro near Barcelona. Results appears in line wityh typical profile for such A8IIIe spectral line. An emission at Hbeta is well visible in J.Guarro result but not visible on our side because of low resolution.
We hope that amateurs observations with low resolution spectrograph at T60/Pic du Midi, can bring valuable data to the Bess communauty.
Comments and suggestions are more than welcome.
Cheers,
Daniel

Hi Daniel,

I think with a low resolution spectrograph like LISA or ALPY, the most useful is to realize Be stars spectra who don't yet have a spectrum in the Bess data base.

With Aras beam, if you put a limiting magnitude of 15 in the query list, for example, we can see that there are many stars who haven't any spectrum in the base.

The magnitude of these stars is not accessible with a high resolution spectrograph (like Lhires III or eShel) and therefore very interesting to do in low resolution already to just see if one of the Balmer lines is in emission or not ....

Hello Olivier,
Starting at 10 there is already a lot to do... in that list, can we consider all the targets for which we only have the high res Hbeta picture ? This is the case for V718 Sco above. In such a case it may be interesting to get a more global picture on other Balmer lines .
Thank again.
Daniel
