Suspected unreliable MILES spectra

Post by Robin Leadbeater »

The MILES library of spectra has generally been considered to be a reliable source of reference spectra for flux calibration. of low resolution spectra. In the past few days however two MILES spectra have been identified which clearly do not match their catalogued spectral type and are significantly different to spectra of the same star published elsewhere, for example in the ELODIE archive.

I recommend avoiding using the MILES spectra of these two stars and to be on the look out for any further anomalies when using MILES spectra.
