Experience with UVEX3

Post by Antonino Ventura »

Hi everyone, I introduce myself, I am a fan of spectroscopy, I live in Italy in the city of Latina. I undertook the construction of the UVEX3 referring to the Cristian Buill project. I must say that it was difficult to optimize this optical scheme, however I think I did it. I put some profiles on your impressions.

Greetings .

Very excellent Antonino. The spectrograph seem very well adjusted because the symetric aspect of emission line (very limited coma).
Also, fine correction of the instrumental radiometric response. Your spectrograph is really operational!
Try to capture the UV part of the spectra by using your CCD camera.
I suppose, you use a 23 microns slit ?

Félicitations Antonino pour l'excellente réalisation et l'optimisation de ce spectroscope.
Merci à Cristian pour son projet à la disposition de tous ceux de bonne volonté.
Il ne reste plus qu'à produire de nombreux spectres.

Thank you Cristian. Yes, I am currently using a 23 microns slit purchased from Shelyak with the guide module.
I am still a beginner and I am followed by Umberto Sollecchia and Paolo Berardi, as soon as I acquire some experience I will definitely try to make spectra on infrared and ultraviolet, as recommended by you.

Good evening everyone. Two more observations with the self-built Uvex to which a 300l / mm grating is installed. For the calibration of the spectrum I used Relco lamps that are located inside the starters of the neon lamps. I placed these inside the lens hood along the internal circumference. I attach the profiles of the V694 Mon, Be I Hya and photos

An ingenious arrangement of the multiple relco argon lamps! What exposure length do you need for them?

Perhaps a polished aluminium or stainless lid over the telescope during calibration could reflect more of their light inwards and eliminate any streetlight pollution.

usually use a 180s exposure but also with 120s it is fine. Good idea a polished lid.

Hi Hamish. Previously I forgot to attach a frame of the Relco lamps used for calibration positioned on the inner circumference of the lens hood. Here I used a time of 120s.
