HbHa 1704-05 = V426 Sge

Post by Francois Teyssier »

After its 2018 outburst (during which it was identified as a symbiotic star), V426 Sge is now in quiescent phase, showing a significant wave variation in brightness.
An excellent target for Alpy600 and LISA
More spectra (1 or 2 per month) should be very welcome.

A spectrum acquired by Christian Boussin shows a strong Raman OVI 6830 band and He II at about the same intensity as H beta.

Hello all,

I obtained the following spectrum of V426 Sge the 22th of July at 00 h 01 TU with my Alpy 600 (resolution of 501, JJ = 2459052.5012) and an acquisition time of 65 min :

V426 Sge on May 20th and July 22th 2020 (zoom)
V426 Sge on May 20th and July 22th 2020 (zoom)
The comparison of the spectra shows a decrease in the relative intensities of the Balmer lines as well as those of the HeI lines.
The relative intensity of the HeII line at 4686A is now greater than that of the Hbeta line at 4861A.
The Raman band OVI at 6830 A remains unchanged since May 20.

Clear skies,

Christophe BOUSSIN

An eshel spectrum of V426 Sge at R=12000, the July 24.9, 2020 :

Narrow lines are from sky pollution (Hg at 4047, 4358, 5461, 5770). But many lines are from the object, here for example the blue part,

a close look of Halpha :

A note: by using the most recent CMOS cameras (here ASI6200MM) and a very optimized processing for CMOS, I is now relatively easy to capture high resolution spectra of faint objet (V=12.5 for V426 Sge... but the "magnitude" is probably not well established because emission ?) with a small telescope (10-inch). Here a comparison between two exposure : a 20-nm one shot, a 120-mn (2 hours) exposure :

[OIII] emission at 6300 A and Raman emission are accessible in 15-20 mn exposure on this type of objet at R > 10000 + optical fiber.

Bonjour,

Here is a comparison of three absolute flux spectra of V426 Sge taken with a LISA + C11, the first on 16 August 2018 at the peak of a Z And-type outburst when the star reached V = 10.85, the second on 26 September 2018 as the outburst declined at V = 11.52 and the third on 5 September 2020 when the star was in quiescence and close to a minimum of its orbital wave-like modulation at V = 12.76.

The reduction in energy of most spectral lines as the outburst faded is clear with many of the He I and Fe II lines being barely detectable in quiescence. It is noticeable that the double peaked Raman O VI 6826 A line grew in strength as the outburst declined before fading again. Also note that the forbidden highly ionised [Fe VII] lines at 5721 A and 6087 A are equally strong in all three spectra.

There is an account of the recent behaviour of V426 Sge in Skopal et al. A&A 636, A77 (2020). This is currently behind a paywall but there is a preprint available on arXiv at https://arxiv.org/pdf/2003.10135.pdf.
