I thought it would be a good idea for my first ever topic in the forum to follow up a suggestion from Olivier Thizy whom I met for the first time at this year's Astrofest in London. Olivier suggested I join this forum and share the spectrum I had recently captured of Comet Lovejoy, sorry it has taken me so long :)
At the time I captured the spectrum I did not have the Alpy guiding unit so the location of the spectrum on the comet is unknown. At Olivier's suggestion I have corrected the spectrum for the response of the Atik camera and as he predicted the near-UV cyangogen emission line is incredibly intense!
Cheers
Hugh

Nice spectrum Hugh.

There are a few other spectra of this comet on the forum to compare with, eg here
http://www.spectro-aras.com/forum/viewt ... f=6&t=1043
and in the ARAS database
http://www.astrosurf.com/aras/Aras_Data ... Comets.htm
and a nice writeup by on the comet by Paolo Berardi in the latest edition of Francois Teyssier's ARAS erruptive star newsletter

Cheers

Hi Hugh,
Strange coincidence, I thought I'd make my first post to this forum today as well!
That is a really nice spectrum of Lovejoy.
See you around,
Andy
