Une observation de la comète Lovejoy
faite le 8 novembre avec un Alpy 600 sur C11
(et un brouillard montant). En attendant que ISON
redevienne visible (peut être), c’est la comète la plus
facile actuellement.

Mais depuis cette date, aucune observation possible
depuis Toulouse à cause d’une horrible météo :(

Another one of Lovejoy from 2013-11-22 using an objective grating and a 50mm camera lens. This one is still bright and well placed in the sky. A good target for a slit or slitless spectrograph while we wait to see if ISON survives perihelion

Hi all! We would like to share our 7 december comet observation with a small Schmidt-Cassegrain telescope (C5) and Lhires III 600. The spectrograph was operating in sequence on two spectral region, from 4180 to 5200 A and from 5200 to 6130 A (configuration used for Nova Del 2013). Below the joined observed spectrum of comet. In the same session we also take the spectrum of eta CrB, a G2V type star, useful for extracting a reflectance profile.

We had no much time to take other spectral regions, so this is an attempt in strong twilight conditions to take CN 3880 (with a dedicated Lhires focusing). Emission band appears divided into R-branch and P-branch lines (not resolved).

Resolve CN mutiplet is a real peformance and impressive.

Your high resolution spectra are also instructive and really not frequent for amateurs
(but you work like e professional).

Here a informative comparison of one of your 7 dec. spectra and an Alpy spectra
taken by me the 29 nov. (on C11, 6 x 600 sec. exposure - high signal to noise, but
of course less resolved) :

Interesting to see the trade-off between SNR and spectral resolution.

I tried to divide the comet spectrum by a G2V one (eta CrB taken in the same observing session) but it seems there is too much noise in comet spectrum for appreciating the effect on spectral lines of metals.
