High resolution spectrum of Gam Cas for AAS publication

Post by Olivier GARDE »

Here is a publication of intensity interferometry made at the observatory of the Cote d'Azur and with my participation for the spectrography side where they needed a spectrum of Gam Cas made at the same time as their measurements on H Alpha and at high resolution (Here with a resolution R = 25000) and a very good calibration RMS (around 0,002Å)

https://arxiv.org/pdf/2301.04878.pdf

I realized this spectrum with the Whoppshel spectrograph on my 0,4m telescope, certainly under exploited because this spectrograph is rather dedicated to telescopes of the 1m diameter class.

A nice collaboration with the Observatoire de la Côte d'Azur and 2SPOT association.

Fascinating ! I did not realise it was possible to do interferometry in the time domain using high speed electronic detectors and correlation of photon arrival times. Certainly simpler than the engineering needed for interfering the different light beams directly as CHARA does for example. Did you get to see their equipment running ?

Cheers

Robin,
I have never seen how their system works because every time they use it, I make a spectrum of their target from my house...
