Baader DADOS 1200 l/mm: WR 140, VV Cep, 28 Cyg...

Hello,

some days ago I purchased a 1200 l/mm grating and I have been testing what can DADOS do with this improvement. Here are spectra of symbiotic BF Cyg (H-alpha), VV Cep (H-alpha also), 28 Cyg and WR 140.

Happy with the results? Well,if we consider that with a 200 l/mm grating and an Atik 314L+ the resolution is about 700-800, it is reasonable to expect a medium-level resolution with the more powerful 1200 l/mm grating, R=5.000 more or less. As you see, all these spectra have this resolution.

But in some forums I read some owners of DADOS with this grating, have achieved resolutions up to 10.000 and more. I don't know more details, but I wonder if these people calculated well the resolution. DADOS is a pretty spectrograph but considering it at a resolution level comparable to Lhires III... I think it's a too optimistic apreciation. :?

Now, the question: with this performance (R=5.000) it is worthy to take spectra of H-alpha bands (or joint the campaign of WR 140) or it is better continue doing low-resolution spectra? What do you think?

Hello Fransisco,

I think your setup would be excellent for the WR140 periastron campaign if your visibility of the target is good from November to January (Periastron is 18th December)

You will probably need a longer exposure to get the required SNR (>100 in the continuum)

Cheers
Robin

Dear Fran,

Great results
I've said it :DADOS is a very nice spectroscop
R = 5000 is an excellent resolution for symbiotics. With your setup, CH Cyg, AG Peg will give very nice results. Try also in Hb range.
Of course, waiting your BF Cyg spectrum for the database

All the best,

François
