Discovered by C. Jacques, C. Colesanti, C. Barreto, E. Pimentel, J. Ribeiro, M. Domingues, J. Amancio, L. Amaral, P. Holvorcem, T. Napoleao on behalf of the Brazilian Transient Search - BraTS - at SONEAR Observatory, Oliveira, Brazil in three frames with 20 seconds exposure using an astrograph 280mm f/2.2 + CCD unfiltered, with magnitude 12.5 under limiting mag = 17.8. Nothing is visible at this location on the previous frames (limiting mag = 17.8) taken on 2022 01 15.28 UT. Possible Nova in LMC.

Hi! I am Tasso Napoleao from Brazil and I belong to the BRATS (Brazilian Transient Search) Team which found PNV J05222788-6936333 a couple of days ago. This is our third classical nova we discovered in the LMC (previous ones were LMCN 2019-07a and LMCN 2019-11a).

We are already running BVR photometry of this nova (currently V = 12.7) but are unfortunately unable to do spectra in our group. Although we have one fellow here with adequate equipment, he lives in Brasilia which is at latitude 15 degrees (and that is too high to catch the LMC in May). I have already written to the 2SPOT team to check if they would be interested in performing a spectrum of this one, but maybe other fellows in Australia, New Zealand ou South Africa would like to try also. That would be highly welcome.

Kia ora koutou, as they say in these parts. I managed to get a shot of this object this evening from New Zealand. 120 min in 4x30min exposures, although some occulting from the observatory walls in the last exposure.

It looks clearly as a FeII nova. Unfortunately, we are already too far from the probable explosion data (April 30th) so I think we are heading to the nebular phase.
