Hi everyone!
Being really senior (82 years old !), I have been lucky to be involved, even now, in the progress of the physics of plasma confinement by magnetic fields (JET, Tore Supra and now, notably ITER). Astronopmy also fascinates me; the two subjects have much in common. After doing astrophotography, I have discovered the elegant and innovative astro spectrographs which are now available. After a campaign with a C11 and a LHIRES III I use, since August, a UVEX on a RC 10'. Being fortunate to enjoy the clear skies of Provence, I produced a number of spectra of symbiotics and was much intrigued by the complexity and diversity of the involved dynamic processes. I look forward to learning and contributing from and to the Forum on both the instrumental and the physics aspects.

I remember seeing a big poster of the (then new) JET when I was at high school.

If you like symbiotics, I found that the excitement of chasing new transients and following development and decline of a nova can also be fun. Unfortunately many of the transients are down near or fainter than magnitude 15, which is just beyond my 7 inch newtonian's limit. The efficiency of the uvex coupled with an RC10 will be a great combination, particularly for faint things if you can source a low resolution grating.

Concerning JET, I worked for 18 years on it. It is still in operation and doing rather well. It has always be an interesting light source for spectroscopists. Although not a specialist, I am a co-author (for preparing the source) of a paper identifying berylliumlike lines of Mo XXXIV and lithiumlike lines of MoXL. I doubt I will see these on my UVEX!!
