Comet C/2023 A3 (Tsuchinshan-Atlas)

Post by Hugo »

Bonjour à tous
Voici le spectre de la comète, réalisé avec un Star'Ex LR 300. Description en haut du graphique.
Les longueurs d'onde des raies moléculaires C2 et NH2 ont été arrondies à l'Ångström le plus proche et sont tirées de « A High-Resolution Catalog of Cometary Emission Lines » de Caltech.
Cordialement
Hugo

Hi all
Here is the spectrum of the comet, made with a Star’Ex LR 300. Description at the top of the graph.
The wavelengths of the molecular C2 and NH2 lines were rounded to the Ångström and come from “A High-Resolution Catalogue of Cometary Emission Lines” from Caltech
Kind regards
Hugo

Here is my composite spectrum of C/2023 A3 (Tsuchinshan-ATLAS), in Visual & near-IR. Used a classical cassegrain 33cm aperture reflector at F/7.5 to shot the comet with Alpy600 (visual) & LISA (IR) spectroscopes on 21Oct2024 and 23Oct2024 respectively. Most of the indicates emission/absorption species are speculative...see the large CN spike in the near UV around 3883A and the sodium (Na I) spike at 5889A. Three CaII absorptions show up btw 8490A-8663A; CaII, not sure if they are solar or cometary.

Spectral image and resulting spectrum of C/2023 A3 recorded on 17th October with a LISA spectroscope on a C11 scope. During 40 mins of integration the comet dropped in altitude from ~24 deg to ~16 deg. The spectrum was response corrected with a spectrum of the B9.5III star HD149121 recorded at an altitude of ~20 deg. According to ATel 16637 the low intensity of many of the usual comet emission lines, with the exception of CN 3883 A, is because the comet is carbon-depleted. Sodium emission visible on one side of the spectrum is presumably from sodium in the comet tail.
