Hi Peter,
As often in astro papers, mathematical developpement are in the Appendix.
See p10 for sigma(EW) formula.
More recently in 2006, Vollmann and Eversberg wrote a short paper with some improvements that makes continuum S/N less important and then, sigma(EW) a bit less overestimated:

Hello Benji,
Thank you for bringing these articles to my attention, now I can understand the essence is about using the continuum of a single spectrum by comparing it to an average-continuum of several spectra (or a theoretically expected one).
My approach was a kind of similar here in the sense of using the nearby continuum - but estimated only a global average.
I will find a way to acquire this method soon!
Cheers,
Peter

About correlation compuation, as in GPL such functions are available in Audela too:
----
::math::statistics::corr {1 2 3 4 5} {2 6 8 9 4}
# 0.386510341262
::math::statistics::corr {1 2 3 4 5} {2 4 6 8 10}
# 1.0
----
I've prefered to focus my attention on Audela as it can do both processing and telescop mount + camera managing.
Whole tasks can be scripted (tcl language) and it's of course open source software. This latter makes it easy to add new code in it.

Current status
The target is fading, but perhaps a plateau since 3 days.
So, we continue the observations at the same frequency. One spectrum a day.
V (green) and B-V (blue) All the best,
François

Hello Etienne,
It looks very good
Waiting to the fit for inclusion in the base
Bonne continuation,
François

A 6.9/06/2018 observation by using a non-standard spectrograph, here a prism spectrograph optimized for the deep bleu en near UV spectral region (SNAKE spectrograph + RC10 telescope (F=0.254 m f/8) + ZWO 1SI183MM camera - 3 x600 + 300 s exposure from Castanet-Tolosan observatory) :
