The STAROS Projects team has designed a new device for scanning the Sun surface at the wavelength of your choice. It's autonomous and plug and play:
- Switch on SUNSCAN
- Point at the Sun with the built-in Sun finderscope
- Start acquisition with your smartphone or tablet.
- Get the image of the Sun directly, without any processing
It's an open source project, and you can print your own parts. An optical kit is also available, as well as a mechanical kit.

Re: SUNSCAN
The Sun scan completed in 5 minutes (including installation and automatic processing) with the SUNSCAN

all these images were produced automatically from a single scan (no manual processing)

Re: SUNSCAN
2 SUNSCAN animations:
- the evolution of a protuberance in less than an hour

- the Sun's rotation in 5 days

The animations were created from images supplied automatically by the SUNSCAN application, with no post-processing other than cropping the image for the protuberance animation and adding the date and time.

Re: SUNSCAN
SUNSCAN is very easy to use, setting up in less than 3 minutes and automatically processing an image in less than 3 minutes, so including installation, you can obtain an image in 6 minutes at the wavelength of your choice (between Ca II K & H and H alpha) by just ^precing a button on your smartphone.

It's a compact, easy-to-use “plug and play” instrument that's easy to take anywhere.
