V1016 Cyg and HM Sge

Post by Tim Lester »

These were acquired at R =9000 and cover the range 6000 to 7100 Ang. S/N is a little low in the continuum since the intensity between lines is nearly zero.
Quite interesting spectra as they both look a lot like planetary nebula. They do however have the band at 6830 ang. due to Raman scattering of OVI (1032) by neutral hydrogen. V1016 Cyg also shows a hint of the Raman band at 7088 from OVI (1038). The [NII] lines either side of Halpha show double peaks in both cases.

Nice and interesting results on these two symbiotic novae.
Congratulations, especially for HM Sge, which is very faint : Vis > 12
